Amitabh Bachchan spices the nation up in Indiav/s Pakistan World Cup Match
Amitabh Bachchan, the megastar and the biggest voice in Indian cinema, felt honored as he made his commentary debut for the biggest blockbuster game of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 between arch-rivals, India and Pakistan.
The Bollywood legendary actor was in exquisite form, as he joined Star Sports experts Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid, Shoaib Akhtar and Akash Chopra during the start of the game on Star Sports 3 and Star Sports HD 3. The host broadcast of ICC Cricket World Cup 2015, earlier launched Star Sports HD 3, a channel dedicated for Hindi feed for World Cup coverage.
Amitabh Bachchan took to the microphone with Akash Chopra and Shoaib Akhtar after India won the toss and decided to bat. Like the openers of Team India – Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan, who entered the field for the first time in this World Cup with hopes and expectations of entire nation upon them, the veteran actor also felt butterflies in his stomach on the commentary debut. He seemed to take up the ropes of commentary pretty instantly.
True to his refined humor, he said, “Rohit Sharma looks nervous at the start of the innings, a feeling I can very much relate to, at this moment.”
It was only fitting that the first runs for India came in the words of the superstar.
Aside from being graciously humorous as always, Amitabh Bachchan surprised everyone with his thorough cricket analysis and knowledge. His likely examination of Shikhar Dhawan’s shortcomings was a case in point – “Shikhar Dhawan is great batsmen, but his foot movement is adaptable sometimes.”
On his predictions for the match, Mr. Bachchan did not disappoint, “This is a difficult question as I have loving fans on both sides of the border. In fact, my mother was born before the partition in Pakistan, now known as Islamabad. However, I’m very much an Indian and hope India will emerge victorious from this game.”
“Thank you for having me here. It was a unique opportunity for me and I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Hope India wins,” Amitabh (who spoke in Hindi) signed off.
