Bling Lessons From Oscars 2016
That dress, the hair, that glowing skin… hold on… did you catch the bling at the Academy Awards? Now the Oscars is a glamorous, but mostly predictable affair of princess-style dresses and eye-watering stones. However, some cheeky guests sneaked in a fun jewelry that can give you some ideas for the next time you want be glamorous.
Priyanka Chopra
She brought some really big stones to the venue. Throwing a twist on the dainty solitaires, Priyanka stacked 11 of them bringing her bling value to a eye-watering USD 8 million.
The earrings were 50 karat, and not as simple as they seemed — the dangling tear-drop honker was attached from the back of the ear-lobe where the push button is. It’s an act that’s hard to forget.

Saoirse was nominated for Best Actress in a lead role for her turn in Brooklyn, but she almost walked away with the award for the most quirky accessory. Her long, water-drop Chopard earrings were subtle mismatched. One was a deep emerald green to match her gown, while another was a milky white, presumably moonstones, to match her skin. Subtle but effective.

The funny woman won the night for the most gleeful accessory. Not one to take herself or the awards too seriously, Whoopi’s hand accessory was a large misshapen pearl surrounded by marquisette diamonds to form an octopus that wound around the finger. Ingenious hand brace, that one.

When others wore diamonds on their wrists, necks and ears, Brie Larson — who won the Best Actress statue for her turn in Room — wore them in her hair. She turned a Niwaka brooch into a hair barrette. A thin braid wound its way around the sparkles, adding sophistication to an already surprising look.

Off the red carpet, at the Vanity Fair afterparty, Liberty Ross recycled her wedding gown, but what struck us magpies were her futuristic earrings. The row of solitaires walked up from her earlobe, in descending order of size, into her ear canal like ear phones. It was very Space Odyssey glamour and we wouldn’t mind that with our astronaut suit.
