Bollywood Brides - Jewellery Special
The Big Fat Indian weddings are known for their magnificent celebrations, opulence in décor, clothes, food, music, and jewellery is the most important factor. Jewellery was and always will be the highlight of any Indian wedding. Months before the D day, the bride-to-be starts planning her dresses and jewellery to go with it, and while all the research on the latest trends in bridal wear is on, it is very hard not to stumble upon the question of what our famous Bollywood divas wore on their wedding day. So for all those lovely girls who will be tying a knot this wedding season, here are some of your favourite actresses on their wedding day. Shilpa Shetty: Shilpa Shetty married the Indian British millionaire Raj Kundra, whom she had met shortly after her Big Brother success. The Shetty-Kundra wedding saw a Tarun Tahiliani Lehenga (worth Rs 50 lakh) and Anmol jewels (worth Rs 3 crore) as adornments. For the reception, Shilpa switched to a Shantanu and Nikhil saree gown. Shilpa was loaded with diamonds, uncut diamonds (Kundan) rubies and emeralds and no doubt looked darn pretty in it. From choker necklace set to rani haar, waist belt, maang tika, and of course her famous heart-shaped diamond engagement ring created a rage in the industry.
Esha Deol: Esha Doel married business tycoon Bharat Takhtani in traditional south Indian wedding traditions. Esha wore different styles of jewellery throughout her wedding functions. She wore very light diamond jewellery, with a statement maang tika and some pretty bangles to go with it. On the mehndi function, she adorned flower jewellery which looked really unique and pretty. For sangeet esha decked up in a royal kundan necklace set with matching earrings and maangtika, whereas for reception, Esha wore a heavy diamond and emeralds necklace set. On the wedding day, she wore traditional South Indian jewellery, heavy large gold kasulaperu necklaces, traditional diamond short choker necklace, paired with heavy gold jumkas along with ear chains, ruby studded heavy matha Patti. The bride looked radiant in all her looks; we particularly liked her sangeet look the most. Which one do you like?
Konkona Sen: The Bong babe looked very different from the rest of the b-town brides, she looked amazing on her wedding day, while wearing a white- silver-ish lehnga sari and Kundan jewellery, which she inherited from her grandmother, along with a pearl bead necklace and maangtika. We loved the simplicity and classic touch; she has set an example of classic minimalist Bollywood bride and we seem to love it.
Vidya Balan: Vidya Balan tied the knot with UTV head Siddharth Roy Kapoor, in a very traditional and non-Bollywood way. Vidya being the choosy one, was very particular about her jewellery and therefore she and her sister designed her wedding jewellery, those designs were sent to Jaipur, where the local artisans made it; she wore those along with some jewellery, which her mother wore on her wedding. She wore floral jewellery on her sangeet ceremony with the traditional Bengali mustard coloured sari and for sure looked like a very happy bride.
Genelia D’souza: The bubbly Genelia married Ritesh Deshmukh in a mix of Catholic and Maharashtrian traditions, the 3 day gala event included functions like sangeet, wedding ceremony, and reception and we saw some really amazing looks by Genelia; on sangeet ceremony she wore a pretty peach and white lehnga with diamond necklace set with earrings studded with emeralds. For the wedding day, she wore authentic Maharashtrian bride’s gold jewellery with designer mangalsutra. We saw Genelia decked up in Kundan (uncut diamond) necklace set and a heavy red lehenga for the reception party.
Kareena Kapoor & Aishwarya Rai: Kareena and Aishwarya, both had a very private wedding function, which leaves us with very fewer images to show. Kareena married Saif Ali Khan and became the begum of Bhopal. Bebo looked jaw-dropping beautiful on her wedding functions, and of course, the clothes were by her dear friend, Manish Malhotra. Though not very heavy, she wore traditional gold jewellery with Kundan work and diamonds on her sangeet and reception, one of which was the heirloom piece of the Kapoor family. Kareena also wore the passed on heavy jewellery and clothes by Sharmila Tagore, which were passed on by her mother in law.
Aishwarya Rai’s wedding with Abhishek Bachchan was a grand affair in B-town but a very private one. We saw 3 looks by Aish, one with flower jewellery in pink lenga on her mehndi ceremony. Aishwarya wore very heavy kundan jewellery on her wedding day, heavy kundan necklace, kundan long haaram and very long kundan haar with emerald drops. She was decked up head to toe. We adored her south Indian look for the wedding.
